The first organizational meeting of the Sauk Centre Area Historical Society was held Tuesday, January 3, 1987, at the Palmer House with its goals being preserving and enhancing history of the area. At this point the Board was trying to establish membership as well as finding a place for the artifacts they were gathering.
A temporary meeting quarters was established 1990 in the old Water, Light and Power Building on Sinclair Lewis Avenue. The Bryant Library underwent a massive remodel in 2002 to include an elevator and a new handicapped accessible entrance. Two wings were added creating space for rooms in the basement. The Historical Society moved to the lower level that October and has been at that location ever since.
